Lisbon, Portugal Remote Permanent Full Time 37.5 - 40 131446

Data is at the heart of how TUI understands and serves millions of customers every year. As our Senior Data Engineer, you'll be the person who makes that data work — building the pipelines, platforms and quality frameworks that keep our digital analytics running smoothly and reliably at scale. It's a hands-on senior role with real impact: you'll shape how data flows across TUI's digital estate, lead a team of talented engineers, and help drive the decisions that shape our customers' holiday experiences.

ABOUT OUR OFFER

  • Personal benefits: Attractive remuneration, exclusive travel perks & discounts, extensive health & wellbeing support, and more.
  • Flexible working: Work is something you do, not somewhere you go. We encourage a healthy work-life balance and offer hybrid or remote working models.
  • A career to shape: Opportunities to upskill, reskill and grow your career. Access the TUI Tech Learning Hub to level-up and reach your ambitions.
  • Expand your horizons: Participate in our tech communities and collaborate on global projects and teams.
  • Community: Get involved with incredible local charity and sustainability initiatives like the TUI Care Foundation and the Sustainable Tech Community.

ABOUT THE JOB

  • You'll lead the design and implementation of data pipelines and integration processes for customer and marketing data from our digital sales channels — building scalable ETL processes that underpin analytics across the business.
  • You'll manage and grow a team of Data Engineers and QA Engineers — running regular one-to-ones, providing technical guidance and code reviews, and creating real development opportunities for the people you work with.
  • You'll own our data quality frameworks, developing automated checks, monitoring systems and clear standards that keep our analytics data accurate, complete and trustworthy.
  • You'll work closely with our Analytics Architect — translating technical designs into implementation plans and making sure every solution we build fits the bigger picture.
  • You'll connect with cross-functional teams to understand what the business needs from its data, turning those requirements into practical, well-scoped engineering solutions.
  • You'll research, evaluate and adopt emerging data engineering technologies — running proof-of-concepts, identifying what's worth investing in and building out roadmaps for technology migration and improvement.
  • You'll make sure our data engineering solutions meet data privacy regulations, security requirements and company policies — including anonymisation, access controls and data retention processes.
  • You'll oversee technical documentation for all our data engineering solutions — keeping it current, useful and well-shared across the team.

ABOUT YOU

  • A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field — and solid hands-on experience in data engineering or software development.
  • Proven experience leading technical teams or projects, with strong communication and people skills to match.
  • Strong knowledge of data pipeline design, ETL processes, data integration tools and frameworks, with proficiency in Python, SQL, Java or similar languages.
  • A good understanding of database technologies (relational and NoSQL), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and their data services.
  • Experience with data quality assurance methodologies and tools, and a sharp eye for accuracy and reliability in analytics data.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate complex data requirements into practical engineering solutions.
  • It would be great if you also bring experience with big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark), containerisation tools (Docker, Kubernetes), data modelling, data warehouse concepts, or web and mobile analytics technologies.
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA), agile methodologies, or experience in the travel or e-commerce industry would be a fantastic bonus — as would any relevant professional certifications.

We're here to create unforgettable experiences. For customers. For each other too. To do this, we need to be ourselves, every day. Feel we belong and feel good in our unique-ness. That's why diversity, equity and inclusion are important to us. So our simple ask is to 'Come As You Are', and make sure that other people can do it, too. Because together, our potential is limitless.

We are committed to supporting candidates with disabilities and impairments so if you require any support, please do let us know.
