Practical Training for Certified Flight Dispatchers (LuftPersV §§112-114)
Behind every successful flight stands a professional team and at the very heart of airline operations is the Flight Operations Officer or Flight Dispatcher. Often described as the “pilot on the ground”, Flight Dispatchers share joint responsibility with the captain for the safe and efficient execution of a flight. They calculate fuel requirements, evaluate weather conditions, monitor air traffic restrictions, and make crucial decisions when situations change unexpectedly. Without skilled dispatchers, modern aviation as we know it would not be possible.
Our Flight Operations Officer Training offers intensive, hands-on training that prepares future Flight Dispatchers for the dynamic and highly responsible role within an airline’s Flight Operations Center. Building on the theoretical foundation of Phase 1, this program focuses entirely on real-world application and ensures that participants acquire the skills and confidence needed to manage complex operational scenarios.
The training is fully compliant with LuftPersV §§112-114 and combines modern training methods, case studies, and practical exercises to simulate the challenges of everyday airline operations. From flight planning and weather analysis to operational decision-making and coordination with pilots, our program ensures graduates are ready to take on the responsibilities of a certified Flight Dispatcher.
During the course, participants gain practical experience in:
- Responding to sudden weather changes – e.g., adjusting routes to avoid storms or turbulence while maintaining fuel efficiency.
- ATC management – coordinating departures and arrivals when airports are congested, and finding solutions that minimize passenger disruption.
- Operational decision-making – working with pilots to evaluate alternate airports in case of technical issues or emergencies.
- Communication and teamwork – acting as the vital link between the airline, pilots, ground staff, and authorities to keep operations safe and on time.
While Phase 1 (theoretical training) is usually provided by flight schools, our Phase 2 program bridges the gap between knowledge and practice. Participants work in an environment that mirrors actual airline operations, gaining valuable insights into processes, tools, and teamwork that can’t be learned in the classroom alone.
